Yevgen, 34 year old, peaceful inhabitant from Debalceve, who tripped a mine near Logvinove (Donetsk region).


Left leg: implications combat-explosive fragmentation wounds (shrapnel) of left leg, defect in the middle third of the tibia measuring 8 cm, fibula defect, granulating wound, peroneal nerve injury.

In Yevgen’s case traditional medicine offers limbs shortening, resulting in disability through dysfunction of the foot and can lead to spine diseases.

Required treatment

It is necessary to perform reconstructive and restorative treatment of the left tibia using cellular technology, fusion. Treatment comprised of 3 phases and will include several surgeries.

More about wounded

inhabitant of the East part of city, decided to leave city together with family, but after leaving the city car tripped a mine. It took place on Kharkiv highway, between Myronivske and Logvinove. Car driver Mykola, Yevgen’s friend, died on the place, but Yevgen’s family managed to survive, and the man was seriously injured.

Immediately after the explosion fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine operatively evacuated Yevgen  to Artemivsk Central regional hospital, where he underwent primary surgical treatment of wounds and mounting of external fixation device. 13th February 2015 he was sent to Sloviansk hospital, where there was performed repeated surgical treatment of wounds, and several days later surgery was held in order to remove fragments from left leg.

For further treatment Yevgen addressed to Kharkiv regional clinical accident hospital, doctors advised to address to social project “Biotech-rehabilitation of wounded people”.

In peacetime, Yevgen lived in Debaltseve, where he worked as regulator of the speed of the cars at the station “Debalceve-sorting”. Now big family is waiting for recovery: his wife Svitlana and three children: 14 years old Vitalii, 4-years old Anastasiia and 1.5-years old Kateryna. And very soon one more child will be waiting for him! They are now in Kharkiv, because apartment with all flooring was burned in fire.

Main stage of treatment


Underwent cicatricial ulcerative plastic repair over the transplantation area with shifting the skin and fascial valve and replacement of the tibia tissue defect with the cell and tissue material in the form of bone chips. The period of further recovery for the patient will be spent at home, while 1.5 months later a control X-ray will be made.

Cellular material collection, wound operative exploration, stem-type apparatus dismantling, defect area exploration, removal of necrotic bone fragment, extrafocal bone osteosynthesis by Ilizarov method, tibia osteotomy at the upper third. The further treatment includes the intermediate fragment pull-through by Ilizarov method with the purpose of defect replacement using tissue-engineering technologies.
