Volodymyr, 36 years old, a fighter of the 93th Mechanized Brigade was injured on July 12, 2015 near the village of Vodiane (Donetsk region.).Без имени


Left leg: consequences of combat mine trauma, total defect of the heel bone (bone is almost completely absent).

Flow of the injury in the event of non-use of cellular technologies: techniques traditionally used in orthopedics, traumatology to provide treatment of large defects. So, the only thing that was done to the fighter in hospitals was removing bone fragments and inflammation treatment. German hospital who took Volodymyr for treatment could not help as well. The fighter might become disabled due to inability to walk on the injured leg and spinal curvature due to uneven loading on the legs.

Required treatment: reconstructive and restorative calcaneus treatment to help to return function of the leg.

More information about the injured

Volodymyr is the fighter of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade. He was injured on July 12, 2015 during a reconnaissance Yasnobrodivka and Vodiane which are situated nearby the Donetsk airport. Volodymyr blew himself on a mine and escaped from traumatic amputation by luck, which normally occurs in these injuries.

The fighter was immediately taken to the Selidove, then – to Krasnoarmiysk and Dnipropetrovsk. A due to purulent inflammation he had to face the threat of amputation of the injured leg. However, the fighter’s leg was saved by the doctors in Odessa hospital – bone fragments were removed and HAC-set unit was set on the leg. The fighter had 7 surgeries on the injured leg. Over the course of time the wound healed, but the left foot of the fighter became dysfunctional, as the left heel of the leg is completely absent.

Traditional medicine is powerless in these injuries. The fighter was sent to Germany for treatment, but there was also nothing they could do except orthopedic shoe lining. Volodymyr cannot stand on his foot – pain in the heel is bothering him.

When Olha Dombrovska, a volunteer from Odessa found out that the fighter was left alone with the trauma, she turned for help to the Biotech Rehabilitation of the Injured Project which specializes in such defects. It turned possible to restore the bone using cellular technologies.

Volodymyr is a native citizen of Chernihiv, but has long lived in Kiev. He has two daughters of 5 and 11 years. Before the war he worked at various jobs – repairing computers, engaged in industrial climbing. Once he did even Thai boxing. The fighter joined the ATO in January 2015. Six months before the injury he performed combat missions near the Donetsk airport.
